John of God - Brazilian Medium and Healer
Nearly 50 years ago, deep in the Brazilian state of Goiás, a humble farmer named João Teixeira de Faria begun healing sick people after channeling deceased doctors who instructed him to perform spiritual surgeries for the sick. With no medical training, he simply goes into trance and the long deceased doctors and surgeons take over his body and do the healing. João says he doesn’t remember what he does after the surgeries, and he never uses pain killers, antiseptics or sutures, despite sometimes using a scalpel on his patients. After thousands of such operations, no one has ever gotten an infection or failed to heal an open wound. But open-skin operations only make up a small portion of his healings, more often he simply instructs his patients to meditate or take herbal pills made of flower essences. João doesn’t ask payment for his work, and even feeds everyone who comes to the Casa for free. Millions of people from around the world have come to see John of God (as he is now known) and many claim to have been healed from all sorts of diseases and maladies.
Thanks to my friend Mika Nelson, who leads guided tours to visit John of God, I went down to Abadiânia myself, where John of God created his spiritual hospital and treats the sick. It was a great experience and if you are open to this kind of healing, then I can definitely recommend a visit! It is a powerful and moving place and experience. Here are just a few of the photos I took there, you can see the full photo set I shot here.

Mos Def - “Umi Says” - Such an awesome song
Some great old school house musique. This takes me straight back to San Francisco, circa 1993, DJ Thomas playing in the Zanzibar club. Those were the days! They don’t make freeeeeaky music like this anymore!
